Abel Ampeireore
Mpungu Widows and Orphans Ministry
Abel and his wife, Fatuma, grew up in beautiful rural Uganda and met in school. He attended university, they married, and both hoped to start a family, unfortunately, they found that they were unable to do so. After they learned of their infertility, Abel and Fatuma felt called to build their family from those within their community who needed care rather than pursue additional fertility treatments for themselves.
A double orphan and only child herself, Fatuma desired to create a community in which, “widows and orphans became her sisters and brothers.” In 2014, they began feeding the widows and orphans in their village and caring for their medical needs, using only Abel’s income from driving tourists and Fatuma’s from running a small market. They now aim to feed a minimum of 40 widows and 50 orphans while also providing for their medical needs, housing, and education.
They would like to establish a sustainable income model based on coffee farming and skills development, including sewing. They would love to build a school for their orphans that is staffed by 5 teachers and 6 administrators.
Additionally, they dream of establishing a health center for both the orphans and widows that includes a lab and pharmacy. Abel is an energetic and optimistic man with a gentle and kind heart. We have seen first-hand that he is a pillar in his community. Abel states that his mission is to “give hope to hopeless widows and orphans.”
